We are the world.

Actually.

In the “We are the World” documentary, you get a front row seat into the personas of some of the world’s biggest eighties’ musicians. That iconic song takes me right back to 1985 with its famous lyrics, those unique voices and that special time in history. But what really stood out to me in the documentary was the initial discomfort Bob Dylan seemed to be having. My heart went out to him. He looked like he felt so out of place. Though he was not out of place. They wanted Bob Dylan there. The producers actually asked him to be there. He did not seem to know this. He was really struggling.
Then Stevie Wonder took over. And Bob Dylan watched Stevie Wonder model what he was supposed to do when it was his turn to sing. He watched Stevie Wonder perform Bob Dylan at the piano. He imitated Bob Dylan with perfection. In that moment, you see Bob Dylan get it. It was like a light went on in his soul saying, “Oh! I am actually supposed to just be myself.” From then on, Bob Dylan was Bob Dylan in all his unique, gravely, talk-singing, sweet self. That part made the whole song just what it needed to be.

Stevie Wonder did for Bob Dylan what the Fab Five do for their Queer Eye heroes. Each episode, someone who has been nominated by a loved one becomes a “hero” for a week and receives love and care for their body, soul and home. The five Queer Eye consultants do not come into the heroes’ lives and tell them to lose forty pounds, move to a new home or change jobs. They show up and immerse themselves in the hero’s life for a week. At the end of their time, people are transformed into more of who they and their loved ones know them to be and it is almost always magic.

Years ago I found myself in a dark place. I had to make some difficult decisions that changed life for all of the people I adore most in the world. I felt overwhelmed with guilt, grief and despair. I knew I needed help. I found Lisa and she lovingly led me back to me. Like Stevie Wonder and the Fab Five, she showed me my strengths, reminded me of who I was designed to be and helped me believe in myself enough to imagine a future.

We are one, after all, you and I, together we suffer, together exist, and forever will recreate each other.

Teilhard de Chardin

I recognized Bob Dylan’s discomfort because I have been there. Stevie Wonder knew just how to inspire the authentic expression of a true artist. He knew “We are the World” needed Bob Dylan to be Bob Dylan because the world needs us to be just exactly who we are meant to be.

I believe in the mystical transformation that can happen when sweet souls catch a glimpse of their own possibilities. My new space is meant to provide a place and a time and some magic where you can find you.

I will be watching, witnessing and catching glimpses with you and for you in this next year. The World wants and needs you to just be You in 2025.

Love and Light to You,

Beth
